Thank you Toronto for reaching deep for change on T4C Day

On February 10th, 400 students from 20 GTA schools came together for the second year of Tokens4Change, a one day event raising TTC tokens and donations for Youth Without Shelter. Volunteers took over 30 TTC stations and PATH locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At stations across the city commuters encountered canvassers or student led performances about youth homelessness. Thank you Toronto for reaching deep to create change and raising $67,500 at Tokens4Change 2012.

The centre of the event this year was a party at Yonge-Dundas Square where Boston Pizza handed out fresh pizza and Toronto’s Number One Hit Music Station – KiSS 92.5 DJ’ed live on location throughout the day. At 3.30 pm a 30 minute show led by Project: Humanity showcased all of the student performances created for the day, wowing the crowd.

Local non-profit organization, Project: Humanity (PH), raises awareness through the arts and leads workshops with Toronto high schools and professional artists to create performances that shed light on youth homelessness.

Charity Intelligence selects YWS as a Top Pick Charity…Second Year!

Youth Without Shelter, was one of only 33 charities in Canada selected as a Top Pick by Charity Intelligence for 2011. We consider this an honour. Charity Intelligence is a resource that people can turn to when they are considering making a donation. CI put YWS to the test: “rigorous and independent analysis including due diligence, assessment of transparency and accountability, cost efficiency and charity results.”

Why was Youth Without Shelter selected:

“YWS excels in addressing a social issue, is cost efficient, and most importantly, has a track record of producing outstanding results for Canadians in need.” (Charity Intelligence)
Transparency: you can access the past two years of our Impact Report and financial statements on our website under the Impact heading.
Housing Program: in 2010, 100 youth successfully completed the transition to permanent housing.
Stay in School Program: in 2010, 34 high school students were given the opportunity to leave abusive homes and remain in school without having to live at an emergency shelter.

400 Toronto students takeover 30 TTC/PATH locations

One third of homeless Canadians are between the ages of 16 and 24. That is 65,000 young people without a place to call home tonight. On Februrary 10th, 500 students from 20 GTA schools are coming together for the second year of Tokens4Change, a one day event raising TTC tokens and donations for Youth Without Shelter.

Students volunteers will be taking over 30 TTC stations and PATH locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At stations across the city commuters can expect to see canvassers or student led performances about youth homelessness.

With the support of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and sponsors like Barrick, Boston Pizza, SNC Lavalin, and Pattison Outdoor Advertising the event has more than doubled since last year. The centre of the event this year is a party at Yonge-Dundas Square where Boston Pizza will be handing out fresh pizza and Toronto’s Number One Hit Music Station – KiSS 92.5 will be DJ’ing live on location throughout the day. At 3.30 pm there is also a 30 minute show lead by Project: Humanity of all the student performances created for the day. Grandmas for YWS Youth

Shhh……..don’t tell the youth at YWS! For the past six months a creative group of quilters have been creating one of a kind XMAS stockings for each of the 50 youth here at Youth Without Shelter. Thank you for lending your creative talents to add some holiday magic for the youth.
